นกหัวขวานสีดำ White-bellied Woodpecker นกหัวขวานใหญ่สีดำ มีขนาด 43 ซม.เป็นนกที่มีขนาดใหญ่ ขนตัวโดยทั่วไปมีสีดำ หลังส่วนล่างและท้องมีสีขาว บนหัวมีหงอนสีแดง ตัวผู้จากโคนปากมีแถบสีแดงเล็กๆซึ่งในตัวเมียไม่มี นกหัวขวานใหญ่สีดำ ชอบเกาะอยู่ตามยอดไม้ เกาะอยู่พักหนึ่งก็จะเปลี่ยนที่ไปเกาะยังต้นอื่น อาหาร ได้แก่ ตัวหนอนต่างๆ ทำรังอยู่ตามโพรงไม้ วางไข่ครั้งละ 3 ฟอง นกหัวขวานใหญ่สีดำ พบเกือบทุกภาค ยกเว้นภาคกลาง อาศัยตามป่าดงดิบและป่าแล้งในระดับต่ำ |
